I'm an old fart, and I've never heard of that.
I have gone right back to places several times after buying tires and say I have a vibration, and they always rebalance - free - and I've never gotten a hard time.
They're stalling you, hoping you'll get used to it or forget. Since they're lying, you can lie and say you called the tire manufacturer and they said no such thing............
