Thanks, Skylight and everybody else. I have made some headway with the stains, but now I've got dark rings around them from water/cleaners/etc.  Thinking about maybe steamcleaning the upholstery or replacing it (?) if that doesn't work. I don't know what the stains are - coffee, Coke, etc. - or how long they've been there.
