When you are running a gap that is over .040 to .045, any plug failure is murder on the wires. Electronic ignitions are capable of producing so much spark to match the wider gaps, that plug misfire makes the cable the weakest link, by forcing it to carry higher energy than it is designed to carry other than for short durations. If you want the performance to stay at the top of it's game, you could consider changing the wires out to a larger core, and reducing the gap slightly...
