What mods are you running? Are you using a manual boost controller to up the boost levels? If so, you might be running too much boost and the PCM is retarding your ignition timing to keep power output at the target level.
It sounds like the guy referring to the map sensor bypass is recommending a map clamp. It is a simple device that puts a ceiling on the map sensor voltage reading so the computer does not see any boost higher than a set pressure. It's easy to install but you MUST get someone who knows what they are doing to tune the car properly. You are basically bypassing the computers ability to protect the car at high boost. You can literally destroy an engine by messing around with map clamps improperly. You can lean out the fuel mixture by running too much boost and the engine internals will explode. Be careful...
