I just did the same thing as you. I forgot about your post wen I came across some assorted grommets in my tool box and that's when the light came on.
Hey, I've read about this before!
Any way, I had to pull the OEM pin out and it boogered up the plastic vinyl just a tad. A hexagon base fitting through a round hole left 8 little marks on the plastic door panel. The grommet covers it up nicely, looks good and keeps it from rattling. I would rather have a small chrome retainer ring insert instead of the grommet but I'll take it as it is.
