i'm just doing textile research, and i'm looking into other fields besides textiles for info on ways of polishing fabrics (maybe also stiffening at the same time),
especially using a hands-on approach instead of using heavy-duty industrial machines
one thing they do in the industry is put the fabric under heavy heated rollers which roll over the fabric back and forth, and this creates the shine... also known as calendering
i've recently read about fabrics finished with polyurethane, which is basically varnish, i think; and i'm assuming they use that to create shine for automobiles too
