Has anyone checked the shifter interlock switch? This can cause the symptoms you describe.
Next time it happens, try starting with the shifter in Neutral instead of Park.
Or try shifting out of Park and back into Park before trying it again.
(Presuming you have a slushbox, as there are so few PTs with 5 speeds.)
