There's a lot of vehicles that don't have a strong flow under the dash (for your feet), I don't think it's just a Chrysler problem. As far as the knobs go, the recirculating air gives you more flow (at least on my 01) so listen and feel the flow of air and when it's higher that means it's on the recirculating side.

I can't believe how many cost saving measures Chrysler made on the PT since mine was made. I guess the lighted dial is just one more of the cost saving things to add to the list.
