Re: Check Engine Light came on - code 1188?
The p1188 code is usually thrown when you have too much boost in a part throttle condition. Boost is building against the partially open throttle plate causing the pressure in front to be higher than the PCM expects. A manual boost controller will do this as it tries to keep the boost at the setpoint of the controller if the engine is producing enough oomph to maintain it. A spring modification on the wastegate actuator will do the same thing. Any dealer mechanics who know our turbo systems will know that you have been playing with the boost if you take the car in with this code and they find no issues with the factory hardware. It's not impossible to get that code while stock if your wastegate is acting erratic or if a hose is leaking/unplugged but you may tip them off that you have been modding your car and give them grounds for warranty denial in the future. Pull any boost mods off your car and reset the PCM. If the code returns you may have a vacuum line pulled off as someone else suggested, but the code will most likely never show up again, until you put mods back on.
Stage 1 is much more forgiving of higher boost levels. I don't know what your mods are but your mechanic is right on. Too much pressure in the upper charge pipe just before the throttle.
