Paint fading is not much of a problem any more with base coat / clear paint systems.

I had an 89 Shelby Daytona that was 10 years old and the laser stripe that separated the silver on the ground effects and the blue of the rest of the body was peeling at the edges. I removed all the stripes off the car and gave it a good polishing and there was no difference in the color.
