Default Re: Exploding lights?

This has just started happening to me. I have a 2003 GT Turbo that I have had for about 15 months. No customization as far as I know. Here is my series of events.

1. 12/7/2007 Dealer replaced rear hatch door lifters on both sides.

2. 12/11/2007 Nice person how followed me into a parking lot said that they had almost hit me as I had no tail lights on either side but the third brake light was fine and the turn signals were fine. Got out the Torx and both sides had badly cracked bulbs. They were not blackened or burned out looking. One bulb was a chalky yellow inside of it and the other was a chalky blue inside. Both were such that you could not see through the glass. They were so cracked that I had to wear gloves to get them out of the sockets. Got the meter out and no strange voltages. Replaced the bulbs with Sylvania 3157 LL - twice the life.

3. 1/14/2007 Discovered that the passenger side tail light had blown again. This time the blub was cracked but clear - no chalky stuff - but it was not blackened either. If that was twice the life, then I had better go get a case!

It just seems odd that for 13 months nothing happens. Then the dealer is messing around in that general area and wham the car starts acting up. I guess there is a possibility that it now requires more force to close the rear hatch. With all the potholes this time of year, if the bulbs can't survive a near by slam of the hatch, they are not going to survive the bad roads.

I will have to check my records but I did not take my PT through a car wash in December that I remember. But I did take it through the car wash 01/09 or 01/10. But it is touchless and I have taken my PT through it may times without this happening. After the car wash, my PT goes straight to its nice cozy garage.

I would greatly appreciate if anyone has any ideas about this issue.
