What is fact: A performance intake the cheapest $ per horsepower upgrade you can treat your PT cruiser to and open air gives you even more bang for the buck and more airflow.

Gas mileage.....a very high percentage of fuel savings comes from how you drive, if you like the increased horsepower and to "drive hard" you will likely not save fuel.

Big whoop. For a turbo car with stock turbo I've seen 3-4 hp gain on PT GT with an open intake. Because of sucking in hot air an open intake kills torque. Seen it on the dyno. If you know how to mod the stock airbox and use a drop in filter you'll have better performance. Only if you can enclose the the intake and keep out the hot air will you have a performance system that is worth using. With running high hp the stock system would not be efficient, though.
