One thing that you can do to improve your sound quite a bit is to get an equalizer. I have a 2006 Touring Edition with the stock CD Radio and an Ipod plug. When I plug in my Palm Pilot to play music trough it, the sound is amazing. I believe the reason is because the music player in my Palm, Aeroplayer, allows me to tweak the sound quality through its graphic equalizer. The speakers are actually not too bad in delivering good bass, once they get some to deliver.
