In order to run anything else you would need to have rca outputs from your head unit to an amp. I have 2 kicker Comp VR 12's that were around $100 each which is probably less then one mopar 10" sub.
I thought this too, I have built subtle systems and SPL ground shakers, but in the PT I had to have all boot space available for picking the wife & kids up with luggage from the airport so any kind of box in the but was just not going to fly.

I paid $90 on e-bay for the mopar unit and when it came it looked like a well made unit, it's only an 8" cone but size isn't everything
It probably took longer to install that a tube like the bazooka as you have to take out the rear seat (easy) rear interior trim and route the wiring down the passenger side to the front (quite easy), once ther it just plugs into your head unit and the wiring loom you just pulled from the head unit, power is taken from the back of the cigar lighter. Installing the unit and the grille over where the pocket used to be is also not too bad, the beauty is the unit comes with istructions that are easy to follow and it has a list of tools to use.

It sounded just fine with the stock head unit and allows you to turn the bass down to say -1 so the rest of the speakers are not trying to over travel to produce low frequencies they are not designed to take.

I've since changed out the head unit and it still works great with an aftermarket head unit, I'm still running the same wiring set up (from the high level rear speaker wires), but I'm told that it's easy to change it over to use the pre-amplified RCA outputs, I just can't be bothered to pull out the unit and head unit to chage it over sounds fine like it is.

One thing is to take your time and listen to a variety of CD's when assessing where to set the gain screw on the unit as once you put the car back to gether you can't get at the gain to adjust like you could with a tube or box on the boot.
