Default Autometer air/fuel gauge # 4375 question

I am thinking about buying one of these gauges. I was wondering if anyone else has installed one of these on their PT? Will it work on the stock narrow band O2, or do you have to buy the adaptor ( #2244) to make it work correctly? The adaptor kit costs more that the friggin gauge does!!

If you do have to use the adaptor kit I will probabaly hold off and get a wideband kit.
