I, too, have read the responses from individuals who
have opened up their exhaust systems only to find their
boost levels drop.

Could it be that the back pressure is not required
for the turbo, but to establish the proper harmonics
(fluid dynamics) to more properly scavenge the
exhaust gases?[:I]

One thing seems clear--allowing a turbo motor to
breathe more efficiently seems more complicated than
with normally aspirated vehicles.
