I think the stock Good-for-a-Years suck. I've lowered the car, put in rear sway bar, and best handling thing I did was the tires.
I got Michelin Hydroedge - much better in rain, handle, and are really wearing well.

In the meantime, check you tire pressure - go a couple psi above the # on the sticker inside the driver's door.
