Welcome to the forum.

There's plenty of talk about owners changing their own timing belt and lots of horror stories. I certainly wouldn't try it without some sort of guide. If you can't get the service maual to download, there's always the pay site PTDoItYourself.net Chrysler PT Cruiser, PTDIY.net, Do It Yourself maintenance, modification, repair, fix, FAQ, gallery, and tips It's only about $15 and has all the information you could ask for. There's alway the Haynes Manual with 8 pages of timing belt instructions but I don't think I'd trust that for a complicated job like this.
