It's now the time to add another chapter to this story.
The dash speakers
If you look at Crutchfield or places like that, you'll notice that there're no 3.5" speakers marked as "fit" for the PT Cruiser.
Actually, the PT has some particular "tweeters" in the dash location. In fact, if the bolt pattern is the same than a 3.5" speake, those stock speakers are small...very small...so small that they are kinda useless IMO.
Trust me, you won't be able to put a 3.5" "as is" in this little hole. The hole isn't round shaped anyway.
So here are what you have to do.
- You'll have to perform some Dremel-ing to enlarge this hole first
- Watch the speaker height. Note the tweeter height on the Polk db351...those barely fit, but fit at the end. Thanks to the grille shape.
- You also have to be careful with the overall depth due to this vent thing down there
Final result:
As you can see, I also had to chop these plastic tabs each side of the screws a bit.
Seems to be a lot of work but it's not that hard to do and it's all but impossible.
Finally, what a great improvement VS the stock speakers!
Enjoy!
