Re: Airbag dash light malfunction
Welcome to the forum. This is from PT Do-It-Yourself.net
I have a 2001 LE PT with 45.5k miles and automatic transmission. I started the car and the instrument lights came on and off like normal during start-up, except that the airbag light came on and never went off. The light stays lit after starting and only goes off when the ignition is turned off. Is there a simple fix? - Bill, from Texas.
The airbag indicator lamp in the instrument cluster lights for six to eight seconds as a bulb test each time the ignition switch is turned to the ON position. Following the bulb test, the airbag indicator lamp is turned ON or OFF by the Occupant Restraint Controller to indicate the status of the airbag system. If the airbag indicator lamp comes ON at any time other than during the bulb test, it indicates that there is a problem in the airbag system. Such a problem may cause the airbags not to deploy when required, or to deploy when not required. The dealer must diagnose the system using their DRB scan tool to determine the exact nature of the problem. (It can be helpful to conduct and provide us with the results of the two vehicle self-tests when you experience a MIL related issue like this.)
