Default Re: HID Conversion Kits

Hey Stone White...

I'm looking to convert my PT to HID lights this spring. I drive many miles every day on dark rural roads so this is a perfect mod for me. I looked up your source on 3B specialties but they are a pricy group. Probably high quality thought I suppose.

So here are my questions about your HID experience:

1. I want to go with 8000k for my low beams & 6000k for the high beams - seems like the best light output/cool look combination to me.

2. Can you comment on the sources I have found for the kits below:

I found this source for the 9006 type low beams on amazon:Amazon.com: XenTec HID conversion kit 9006 (HB4) 8000K Single Beam Xenon (Thunder Blue): Automotive

Same source for the 9005 type high beams:Amazon.com: XenTec HID conversion kit 9005 6000K Single Beam Xenon (ultra white): Automotive

3. These kits seem like most mechanically inclined folks can do the install themselves - can you comment on that?

It seems to me mounting the ballast and making sure the wires are routed well and tied down away from heat sources is the way to go.

XenTec actually quotes their quality defective rate as "0.3% comparable to OEM HID lights" - that seems pretty good to me. Unless OEM HID lights have a tendency to burn out (but that would be news to me).

For about $200 large I can have full HID conversion. Sounds good to me.

Your thoughts?

Thanks,

Tom
