Pay the man. You can get the tint done how you want it, how dark and with the windshield strip how low you really need it.
I did the windshield strip at the top on my 01. It very low, since I'm short. At the center of the windshield the bottom line of the tint is at the base of the rearview mirror. At the sides it sits about 4inches below the AS1 line. Yes its illegal, but I've never been bothered about it, and doubt I ever will, since when I drive it looks right. The tint guy did a couple of strips for me and I picked out the one I liked which is the illegal one. $50 cash and I was on my way. Who did my windshield officer? I don't know I bought it this way.
