Default Re: QUICKLY PLEASE, Front Door Speaker Size, what will fit like the Factory Speakers?

Yes I know this thread is dead, but thought I would offer my insight so any future people that use the search can find some info.

In my '05 PT Cruiser convert, the front speaker blew after only 25k miles. On one of them the actual speaker magnet fell off.
Since the original speakers are a non standard size (6 1/2" round), i wanted to replace them with 5 1/4" standard speakers. I thought I would have to devise some custom mounts to use 5 1/4" speakers. To my amazement, the original speakers used a plastic speaker frame and guess what, a 5 1/4" speaker will fit inside the bolting flange of the 6 1/2" stock speaker. Just cut out everythign on the original speaker other than the bolting flange and lip (before the speaker frame starts to connect to the speaker magnet). Then you can use the original 6 1/2" speaker flange to bolt to the stock speaker location and screw the new 5 1/4" speaker to the whats left of the original plastic speaker frame.
This may not make much sence, but once you see the original speakers, it will. And this will save you lots of money as the original speaker size is un-common and thus more money.
