Default Re: Really? A/C Compressor Stumble Is Normal?

Hi everyone...

Just an update to this issue.

First off, I have a 2005 PT Cruiser Limited with the 2.4L "non-turbo" engine with 71k miles. Its stock all the way...no mods and nothing special. My wife also has a 2005 PT Cruiser Limited w/2.4L "non-turbo".....exactly the same but with 85k miles. The ONLY thing different between our PT's is the color. We purchased them 3 weeks apart in the summer of 2005.

So on to the issue...
Late last fall I began experiencing the stumbling issue that you've all described...but since it was going into the winter, there was no pressure to get it repaired at that time. Then, not 2 weeks after MY PT began exhibiting the stumbling issue, my wife's PT started! Oh the JOY!

I came across your forum during the 2008 holidays and bookmarked it, knowing that at some point I would need to address the situation. I was also hoping that SOMEONE would find a resolution to the issue....and state it for everyone here.

Fast forward to today...spring time...and the outside heat is building to the point that this issue became important again (lol). Dreading the worst, I took my PT in to the local repair shop (we are out of factory warranty). They found the TSB that others have previously mentioned and they recommended a coil - spark plug - wire replacement. I agreed to the work since my PT had not had a tune up since its 36k checkup. Needless to say, this didn't resolve the issue (and after reading your posts here, I didn't expect it to).

I AGAIN mentioned the "fan control module" to the repair tech...only to find out that my model doesn't have one (probably the turbo models do). But that lead them to the FINAL resolution....replacement of the radiator fan.

My wallet is now $350 lighter...but I got a tune up, radiator fan, and the labor to do all of this paid for. The repair shop's owner felt bad after his recommendation didn't resolve the issue....so they offered to eat the labor charge for the radiator fan install...and we went 50 / 50 on the cost of the radiator fan part.

So considering I got the radiator fan, Mopar coil, plug wires, spark plugs, and the labor all for $350, I'm breathing a sigh of relief!

I realize the tune up didn't fix the issue, but want to pass on to others with this issue for them to focus their repair techs to the radiator fan and / or the fan control module (for those which it is applicable).

I'm back to being a happy PT owner.

Thanks to everyone here that posted their info on this problem. It DID help me (and hopefully others) to a resolution.

Best wishes to everyone for a prosperous 2009!
