Just curious, perhaps an admin or mod could answer it for me, but I noticed the site uses vBulletin as it's backend.
On all of my websites I run I use vBulletin as the backend, and know for a fact that it comes with the ability to upload, convert to smaller filesize, and store in the DB (which generally is not counted against your disk-size if using a good host) images and attachments. That said, my question is:
What is the reasoning behind folks pushing for image hosting sites when you can simply attach the image to the posts and the vBulletin hosts it here?
Feel free to tell me that it is what it is if that's the case, but I'm truly curious as I've never seen any major issues with my backends on the vBulletin installs I run with the attachments allowed, plus it allows the users a much easier and quicker interface to upload, and prevents cross-site script issues that can come up with image hosting platforms (I remember image-shack nail a few thousand people with a trojan about 2 years ago from images that were hotlinked to their servers ... wasn't pretty, I personally disabled access to image hosting services to prevent this problem for my users on my sites and gave them the ability to host the images (albeit sized for proper viewing on the boards) on the vBulletin installs).
Again, I'm just curious as to the reasons behind the push to use questionable outside hosting services when threads have the ability to host images here, not trying to step on anyone's toes as I am new to the forums and dun wanna be slapped

P.s. another question, dun slap me please for being obtuse, but why the inability to thumbnail on attachment and why the super small allowances on filesize?
