2006 - Replaced Fan - Comperssor Not Working
Ok guys (gals) try to follow this one:
1 – Fan stopped working about 6 weeks ago. Not overheating but like others A/C would blow warm during stops and engine would idle rough.
2- Was quoted $772 from dealer to replace the fan! Ordered the complete fan assembly for $99 online and was waiting on deliver to replace.
3- While waiting to install the fan, which I delayed an extra week, the A/C was working fine while driving the vehicle. During stops I would turn off the A/C. About 3 days before I replaced the fan I “punched” the accelerator to pass another vehicle while the A/C was still running (usually I would turn off the A/C before passing someone). Immediately after making the pass my cold air started blowing hot and never blew cold again.
4-I replaced the fan assembly in about 2 hours and the fan works fine. Still no cold air though. The compressor would not come on.
5- Brought the car to a friend that owns a body shop with an “A/C machine” to test my system. They told me there was a charge in the A/C system but they empty and refilled the system anyway and everything was working fine.
6- I drove the car for about 30 miles (drive home) at first the air was ice cold, by the time I arrived home it was blowing warm again.
7-Brought the car to a local A/C and radiator place. He told me the system was charged and no leaks but compressor would not turn on. They said that when power applied to the compressor it would turn on and blows cold however after running for a while it would shut off and not come back on. He told me to take it to the dealer, maybe a computer issue.
Thanks it folks. My fan works, my A/C system is charged. Compressor won’t come on. Any ideas would be appreciated.
