Default Check Engine Light following Radiator Fan Motor replacement

I had to change the radiator fan motor. After I finished and did the op check and leak check the check engine light came on and has stayed on. Would the reset be disconnecting the negative battery cable for a few minutes and reconnecting it? I have heard that sometimes this works. Otherwise it runs fine and stays very cool even with max A/C. I live in Kansas where it is hot and humid this time of year.
Also send to my email.
thanks
