I wouldn't worry about a whine or squeal or squeak. If the brakes stop the car, that's the main goal. Have the shop check it out.

Same here, and bedding was really useful with asbestos brake shoes and pads, when they were still available. The instructions that came with the ceramic pads I bought suggested bedding, so I did it. It seemed to help.
