Hey Captcueball, that's a killer idea on the knobs! A set of something similiar sells for over $85 on many of the accessory sites. The savings on your approach is enough to pay for the chrome vent covers and have money left over.
Did those bolt caps slip over the existing knobs? I'm not sure I follow what you did with the tape.
