Edit: yup thats where id do it. make sure its with a recovery strap and not a tow strap. the difference is the metal hook. you DO NOT want to use that for recovery. i know the PT is light but that hook can snap off and go through your window or worse into your head. ive seen it happen more times than i care to remember. also if the vehicle that is pulling you out has a tow hitch DO NOT use the tow ball. same thing can happen.

That's exactly where I ended up attaching it. The axle worked perfect.
I did use the straps with the hook. However, I wrapped it around and attached it to itself. With my wife in the car backing up while I pulled, it went very easily. I used 4 - 2,800lb straps. Overkill? Sure, but I wanted to avoid the possibility of the straps breaking by distributing the weight out.
