From what the manual says you have to remove the axle shaft and lower control arm off. I've looked at this with some dread if my alternator died. I did see one post here that said where you can snake it out through the top. Looking my nonturbo manual I think I could do it.
You at least need to remove the splash shield and pencil brace to get to the alternator attachments. Good luck.
