You have to look at your launch technique. If you're just dropping the clutch, you aren't getting your best times. The more spin/noise, the slower you go. If you aren't doing it already, try slipping the clutch in first while launching.
Try reving to just around 2000RPM, then slipping through first; to avoid excessive spin. Also, to improve your 1/4 times, try power shifting. I've found it works very well with this engine/tranny combo.
