This reminds me of the PC wars early on, Apple kept everything proprietary, and even though they had a vastly superior product, IBM's platform won out because they opened up the to the ingenius independants.
Open up = Sell more cars
Proprietary = Own a smaller profit AND ALL the problems!!
Right now most young performance buyers don't even look at Chrysler, when the whole candy store is open for Honda,Toyota,and Nissan buyers.
