The oil in the pan shouldn't drain if you just change the filter. I've gotta ask though, why? If you're already down there with a filter wrench and a drain pan, why not drain the oil and replace with fresh?? Oil is cheap, engines aren't. Add a 13MM wrench to your stuff and drain it all!
