I guess that I'm Just a "Speed Freak", and not very patient. Definitely a Type A personality. All of that aside, I have modded the cruiser with a tuned free flow dual exhaust, a 3" turbo up free flow air intake. Blowby catch cans, hi performance 10MM Magnecor plug wires, a screamin demon high output coil, a TurboXs dual stage boost controller. I have owned turbo cars before, so I feel like I should know what to expect performance wise. With all of those mods, the car is much faster/quicker, but I could feel the PCM fighting to keep the performance down, and throwing occasional codes. Stage 1 fixed the (autostick) shifting issue, the part throttle boost loss issue, overboost codes, not to mention the possibility of running too lean & burning a piston or two. Besides all of that the car runs like a raped ape now and the driveability at lower speeds makes me feel even better than the fact that it shifts out of third gear @6200rpm @ 112-115 mph. Was it worth it?? You bet your a$$ it was even if I decide later to upgrade to stage 2. So you see, to me it was much more than speed, it is the overall performance gains that I was after. The ONLY way to get that is a new PCM that will change the operating parameters of the engine/transmission. I can understand about the cost though. I consulted with my children (ages 30 & 26) before I bought, cause after all I am spending their inheritance !!!
