I don't understand, my PT is a joy to drive. The engine reponds instantly and revs so quickly in first that if I am not careful it hits that damned hard rev limiter before I grab second. Mine is an '02 with only slight modifications. I am running a Volant Cold Air Induction and a Monza 2 1/2" cat-back system and a Hurst Billet+ shifter. In stock condition it did act like it needed to breath but still didn't behave as you describe. Maybe you need to reset your ECM and let it relearn your driving habits.
