A BOV is supposed to realease excess boost levels between shifts so as to prevent backspin of the turbines by the sudden stop in airflow. Whe the throttle body closes there is no where for all the boost to go, so the BOV vents it to the atmosphere. It allows the turbine to keep spinning between shifts, resulting in great turbo response while going through the gears. If you plan on increasing the boost in any way, i suggest you get some sort of BOV
