With the PT Platform dead-ending at the end of the 2005 model year, the aftermarket may decide to wait for stabilization.
2005 will be the last year for the PT?
From what I have been reading, the 2006 model year will introduce a Mitsubishi Platform-Based PT Cruiser with a modified body style. I will look around for a link...

Here is a link, with a quote from that link:

Lancer platform for next-generation Sebring/Dodge Stratus and PT Cruiser/Dodge Neon and others. Neon to bow in 2005, Sebring and Stratus in 2006. PT Cruiser will debut in 2005 or 2006. Mitsubishi Galant Sedan, Eclipse Coupe and Eclipse Spyder and the 2004 Endeavor Sport Wagon will be produced off the Project America Platform.
Um, the Neon and PT aren't the same platform. The Neon gets a new Mitsubishi platform, but PT is gonna be around for a long time to come.

Also, CARB certification (as opposed to exemption) is in the neighborhood of $150k. There isn't much profit in a $400 upgrade to be able to do that from the get-go.
