There are coilover solutions that do NOT require you to buy a specific coilover shock! These kits consist of a threaded alloy tube that slides over the body of the strut, a spring seat is then spun down the tube and a smaller diameter coilover spring is placed on the seat, then the smaller diameter cap holds the spring. Height adjustment is just like the regular coilover, and the extra tire room is achieved with the smaller diameter spring, seat, and cap. Cost for the spring setup is from $250 to $300 on top of the cost of the strut.

Unless you are going to race your PT at Willow Springs, I doubt you would know the difference, and the total setup is about 1/2 the cost!
