Re: Drivers window wont go up - Pls. help
There is a TSB 08-035-05
What is the manufacture date on the drivers side door of your PT Cruiser?
TSB 08-035-05
SUBJECT:
Power Windows (One Or Both Sides) And Possibly Power Convertible Top Inoperative
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves flash reprogramming the Smart Glass Module (SGM) or on some
vehicles replacing the front window regulator/SGM assemblies.
MODELS:
2005 (PT) Chrysler PT Cruiser Convertible
NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles built prior to June 9, 2004 (MDH 0609XX)
having Smart Glass Module software versions prior to Version 11.0 (as read
with diagnostic tool).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
With the proper system voltage condition (10 -16 volts), the following conditions exist on
either or both sides of the vehicle:
No operation of the front and rear windows, including front window drop during door
opening and window drop during convertible top operation.
Unable to communicate with either or both SGMs with the DRBIII®.
If the driver side SGM is affected, the driver side windows will exhibit the conditions
described above as well as the power convertible top will be inoperative.
DIAGNOSIS:
After confirmation of the conditions identified above, the following reset procedure must be
performed to determine the module hardware and software level:
1. Open both doors (provides a faster voltage decay in the SGMs).
2. **Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
3. Keep the battery disconnected for a minimum of 15 minutes.
4. Reconnect the negative battery cable.**
5. Connect the DRBIII®, turn ignition switch to ON position and read hardware and
software information for both of the SGMs.
NUMBER: 08-035-05
GROUP: Electrical
DATE: June 30, 2005
6. Dependent on the version of module hardware/software, follow the Repair Procedures
to reprogram the SGM(s) or to replace the front window regulator/SGM assemblies. If
the module software is Version 11.0, this service bulletin does not apply and further
diagnosis is required.

CH2002 General Purpose Interface Bus Cable Assembly
CH6000A Scan Tool (DRBIII®)
CH7000A/7001A J1962 Cable with red DRBIII® connector
TechCONNECT Workstation
NOTE: An updated J1962 cable has been released. This cable has a red colored
connector at the DRBIII® connection. Use this cable whenever a flash is
being performed.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
Module Resetting
1. Open both doors (provides a faster voltage decay in the SGMs)
2. **Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
3. Keep the battery disconnected for a minimum of 15 minutes.
4. Reconnect the negative battery cable.**
5. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and try each of the four window switches to
confirm operation.
6. If all windows move, then proceed to the Module Identification procedure. If the lock-up
condition is still present on either side of the vehicle, or both, repeat steps 1 through 4,
lengthening the time to 30 minutes.
SGM Reprogramming
NOTE: Whenever a module is reprogrammed, the software in the DRBIII®; must be
programmed with the latest revision level available.
NOTE: If this flash process is interrupted/aborted, the flash process should be
restarted and then follow the directions on the DRBIII®.
08-035-05 -2-
1. Before beginning the flash procedure, remove any old flash files from the DRBIII®
memory. To clear the memory from the MAIN MENU:
a. Simultaneously press the “MORE” and “YES” keys.
b. A screen will appear requesting a “COLD BOOT”.
c. Follow the on screen instructions by selecting the “F4” key.
d. When the DRBIII® reboots to the MAIN MENU, proceed to Step #2.
NOTE: “Drivers Door” and “Passenger Door” in the DRBIII® display refers to the
corresponding SGM's.
2. With the ignition switch in the “ON” position, determine the original part number of the
SGM currently in the vehicle. Using the DRBIII® select:
a. "DRBIII® Standalone"
b. "1998 - 2005 Diagnostics"
c. "All (Except Below)"
d. “Body Interior”
e. “Doors, Gate and Comfort”
f. “Drivers Door” and/or “Passenger”
g. “Module Display”
h. Record the “SGM part #” on the repair order for later reference.
3. Connect the DRBIII® to TechCONNECT. Open TechTOOLS and verify that the
"DRBIII® Status: Connected" message is in the upper right corner of the TechTOOLS
screen.
4. Enter the “SGM part #” recorded in step 2h in the “Parts Criteria” area and select
“Show Updates”. TechTOOLS will populate the appropriate flash file.
5. Select the flash file.
6. Select the “DRBIII” radio button which is next to the “Download/Update” button.
7. Select the “Download/Update” button.
8. Monitor the "Flash Download/Update Progress" window on the TechCONNECT and
follow the instructions on TechCONNECT. When the flash download/update process is
complete, proceed to step #9.
9. Disconnect the DRBIII® from TechCONNECT.
10. Open the hood, install a battery charger and verify that the charging rate provides
approximately 13.5 volts.
11. Connect the DRBIII® to the vehicle.
12. Download the flash file from the DRBIII® to the vehicle. Using the DRBIII® select:
a. “Vehicle Flash”
b. Follow the directions on the DRBIII® screen. When the flash process is complete,
perform the SGM Calibration procedure below.
NOTE: Due to the SGM programming procedure, a DTC may be set in other modules
(TCM, BCM, MIC, SKIM, etc.) within the vehicle, if so equipped. Some DTC's
may cause the MIL to illuminate. Check all modules using “Module Scan”,
record the DTC's, and erase these DTC's prior to returning the vehicle to the
customer. Erase any DTC's in the PCM only after all other modules have had
their DTC's erased.
13. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
14. Confirm all window and power top functions.
15. Confirm no occurrence of new DTCs.
NOTE: If the SGM(s) would not accept the flash update, replace the window
regulator/SGM assembly(s).

Window Regulator/SGM Replacement
1. Replace both front window regulator/SMG assemblies following procedures outlined
on TechCONNECT.
2. Following the installation of the new regulator/SGM assemblies, perform the Smart
Glass Calibration procedure below.
3. Clear any SGM DTCs with the DRBIII®.
4. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
5. Confirm all window and power top functions.
6. Confirm no occurrence of new DTCs.
SGM Calibration
After the replacing the regulator assemblies or reprogramming the SGMs, the modules
must be calibrated to "learn" the full up position. The calibration procedure must be
individually performed on the driver side and passenger side SGMs.
1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
2. Hold the front window switch for the appropriate side in the UP position and stall the
window closed for 5 seconds. Release the switch.
3. Open the door by pulling internal door handle and hold the door handle in the open
position for 5 seconds. Release the handle.
4. Hold the same front window switch in the UP position to stall the window closed for 5
seconds. Release the switch.
5. Confirm that the window drops when the door is opened and returns to the full up
position when the door is closed.
6. Repeat steps 1-5 for the other side as necessary.
7. Set the clock to the correct time.
POLICY:
Reimbursable within the provisions of the warranty.
I would suggest to try opening the doors unhook the battery for like 15-20 min then hook up the battery and see if that helps as Lion_PT says.
