Default Re: 2001 ptcruiser radiator fan not coming on overheat at idle

A high percentage of the time when the engine overheats the radiator fan turns out to be bad. Usually you have warning when the PCM triggers P0480 or P0481 and turns on the engine light. I have never had my engine overheat as I always check to see what the codes are when the engine trouble light comes on and replace the radiator fan after verifying it is not working properly. If any of the brushes in the motor of the radiator fan are not making contact the speed of the radiator fans slows down and reduces the air flow going into the radiator. I suggest replacing the radiator fan immediately if the radiator fan does not come on manually on low or high speed. RockAuto has the radiator fan for sale for about $90.00 and its a peace of mind knowing we are doing what we can to keep the engine cool. I keep a brand new spare radiator fan in the garage in case either of my Pt Cruisers radiator fan goes bad.
