Hey Bob
I'm also a New Yorker and i dont know whats worse , The weather or the traffic and the bad drivers in the bad weather.
By far, the bad drivers. I go to 2 locations for work - one is all interstate, the other all back roads. When I go to the one (Princeton) on the back roads, I go early, have the road to myself (well, me and deer) and I don't really mind the snow. On the interstate, I find snow polarizes drivers - the "chicken littles" that go way to slow, and the Yahoos that go way too fast. I drive steady in snow - nothing abrupt - and other than taking longer, it's okay.

My poor PT looks like a frosted donut now.
