From PT DIY:
According to the service manual the floor console removal procedure is fairly straightforward, however some owners have reported difficulty with DC's instructions. The instructions below are a combination of owner feedback and the instructions found in the service manual.
1. Place the transmission in "park."
2. Pull up on the parking brake lever as far back as it will go.
3. Recline the driver and passenger side, front seat backs.
4. Remove 4 screws located in the front cup holders and rear corners.
5. Lift console up enough to reach in and unhook window and power outlet wire connectors.
5. Remove shifter handle:
Automatic w/leather shift knob - Using a 3mm hex wrench, loosen the setscrew located on the front side of the factory shift knob below the trigger. Pull the shift knob and shaft cover assembly straight up and off of the shifter.
Manual w/cue ball shift knob - The five-speed knob pulls off without any setscrews. I hear that it takes some effort to pull it off. It is a press fit. Wrap the shaft and bottom of the knob in a towel to protect the finish. Place an open-end wrench under the knob and gently tap up on the underside of the wrench with a hammer until the knob breaks free.
Another method used to remove the shifter knob is to apply heat to the bottom of the knob for a few minutes. Using a hair dryer on high heat, concentrate the flow of hot air, blowing upwards, to the area where the shaft meets the knob. When the knob loosens, slide it upwards and off the shaft.
6. Lift up on the back of the console, slide it back slightly, then upward over the gear selector and parking brake lever. If this doesn't work try turning the floor console slightly, then upward over the gear selector and parking brake lever. (Some owners have reported that the floor console is much easier to remove if you remove the driver's seat.)
