I'm running 225/45's on a 17 x 7.5 in wheel with 42mm offset. 235/45 would not fit with this combination, they would rub against the strut. With an offset of 35mm a 235/45 might work, but as you said the odometer will be off more.
I'm happy with the 225/45's.
