Believe it or not, you DO have to modulate the throttle somewhat. Without intervention from the throttle, no traction control can overcome you sticking your foot through the firewall. This goes for dry pavement as well. My best ETs are with the traction control off.

I find that I can climb my icy driveway just fine with the traction control on. With it off, the passenger side tire just spins and spins and I go nowhere.
