The stock surge valve does pretty much the same thing as a BOV - it just plumbs it back into the intake vs venting to atmosphere. I don't see any longevity increases by replacing it.. FYI though: if you open up your intake system at all, you'll be able to hear the flutter sound of the surge valve and it's pretty lame. My 6 yr old tells people "our pt cruiser turbo farts!"..
