I researched this a while ago and at the time the SRT4 folks were finding out that installing the top mount only was the way to go UNLESS they replaced ALL 3 mounts ( two engine mounts and one tranny mount).
There were a few people that reported they had tried just the top mount because it's easier to install. When they got around to installing the lower mount they started reporting increased wheel hop. It was only after they replaced the tranny mount also that they reported better launch control than just using the top mount.
Also a number of posts were negative on installing the inserts...seemed they kept falling out under severe use and the factory mounts were still prone to tearing/ripping with extended drag-strip duty. This pretty much persuaded me NOT to buy the inserts.
I have already purchased a poly-filled top mount (firm) but have as yet to install since the drag strip is closed for the season. When I install S2 I'll install the top mount at the same time.
My take on this is Tommy is doing a good thing here...
