Default Data Logger now available

I did a search, and didn't find any previous mention of this; apologies if it has been covered before.

I took the plunge and got a Davis Instruments CarChipEX data logger. They are available from AutoZone in my area.

It will log up to 300 hours of trip details and lets you select 4 out of 23 possible engine parameters to record every 5 to 60 seconds (software selectable).

The software has a number of plotting options, and there is a SDK (Software Development Kit) available for download from thie customer suport page that has include and library files for both "C" and Visual Basic..

I just got it, and will be travelling 300 miles over the weekend, I hope to have some info to share when I get back.

I plan on logging Speed, throttle position, intake manifold pressure, Engine RPM and Engine Load.

Hopefully, this will provide some interesting info.

It will also allow me to see if there are any changes in how the PCM controls the system after a system reset (removing battery cable and clearing "learned" data.

This should show once and for all if the PCM does start limiting performance as it gathers more detail anout the driver's style. I have become less agressive in my driving in the months after first getting Stage I, and the performance seems to have dropped.

Here is the info from their site:

CarChipE/X includes all the features of CarChip, plus four times the data storageĀ—up to 300 hours of driving data. (The actual number of hours will vary, depending on how frequently you log data.)

As with CarChip, you'll get time and date for each trip, distance, speed, hard accelerations and decelerations, and engine diagnostic trouble codes.

With CarChipE/X, though, you'll also be able to monitor any four out of 23 user-selectable engine parameters, including:

RPM
Throttle position
Engine load
Fuel pressure
Fuel system status
Short- and long-term-fuel trim
Battery voltage
Timing advance
Coolant temperature
Air flow rate
Intake air temperature
Intake manifold pressure
Oxygen sensor voltage

Plus, if you're unfortunate enough to be involved in an accident, CarChipE/X will automatically generate an accident log showing the last critical 20 seconds of speed.

Includes data logger, software on CD, download cable, and power adapter. Requires Windows 95 or above, at least 5 MB free hard disk space, and one free serial port. Add our optional USB-to-Serial Cable to connect to USB.
