Their story may be a hoax, but the car fire I wrote about is 100% real.
The pumps now have a large "TOUCH HERE BEFORE FUELING" metal plate next to the pump nozzle. This is a static discharge grounded plate, with a resistor in the circuit to prevent static arcing.
