I once knew a gentleman who filled vending machines back at the begining of time and he drove a '52-'53 Chevy pannel truck (PT) and he only changed the filters every 3,000 miles, and topped up what ever oil was needed. He would put 200,000 miles on a car every two years and swore you were foolish to change oil so often because it doesn't break down, it just gets dirty. Now if a good filter (is a $10 K and N better than a $5 MoPar?) can get the metal deposits and other solids out what kind of damage do things like acid and carbon do? I know Ford reccomends oil changes in my '02 Explorer at 6,000 miles and the oil manufactures say 3,000, but who wouldn't if your in the oil business, but the manufacturer backs the warrenty, not the oil maker. I have half a notion of going to Mobil 1 and changing only the filter at 6,000 miles and then oil and filter at 12,000 mi and so on.....through the limits of the extended warrenty!!!!
